WHO IS NIKI ROBERTS
Niki Roberts is a lifelong resident of New Orleans and a career public servant. She is invested in our city because it is her city too. For the past eighteen years, she has worked in the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office while raising her daughter, Jessica, as well as caring for her mother, Kathy.
Niki credits her family for helping her succeed. As a teenaged single parent her family provided her with a support network that allowed her to continue her education and thrive. Niki continues to benefit from and support her strong family network. Family and community are crucial to the growth and well- being of every child. Niki hopes to help all youth that appear in court understand that with the support and guidance of family and the community they can overcome any mistakes and obstacles and come out on top.
Niki’s educational path had many twists and turns. As a single mother, Niki chose to raise her daughter while still pursuing her high school, college, and law school education. She is a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart, received her Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of New Orleans and earned her Juris Doctor from Loyola University School of Law. Despite her struggles, Niki persevered and knew that education was her path forward. It is why she values education for our children today. Niki also recognizes that education is not a one size fits all solution and that career and trade school is a proper route for many of our children. She will require the same dedication to education from the young people who appear before her.
Niki Roberts began her journey as a career public servant as an Assistant District Attorney in Orleans Parish. She quickly rose through the ranks becoming a Senior Trial Attorney, Supervising Attorney, Deputy Chief of Trials and most recently Chief of the Juvenile Division. Niki knows Juvenile Court inside and out and recognizes the areas of the Court which must be strengthened to help those children in the system. She is driven to find the causes that bring children before her and to prevent them from coming back. This means holding the children responsible for their actions, where appropriate, and also making sure that adults involved in their lives do not contribute to their problems. Now, she wants to use her valuable experience as Judge in Juvenile Court.
Niki Roberts has the life experiences and has overcome many obstacles which will allow her to relate to today’s children and their challenges. She has the experience and knowledge to be an excellent judge for our children and our city.
